Brighton AppleFest - An Annual Tradition

Andrew & Ray SevenMaples

The AppleFest Festival has been running for almost 50 years. It was started in 1975 by local merchants as a way to promote the apple-based culture around the area, and is now the largest annual event in Brighton drawing up to 30,000 people.

It takes place over the last full weekend of September and features a parade, hayrides, a classic car show, and live music. Main Street is closed down over the weekend and booths are set up selling local arts and crafts and food. It all makes for a very festive atmosphere and celebration of the apple harvest.

Our first AppleFest was in September 2022. Covid had led to its cancellation the previous year, but the crowds turned out in force to welcome it back, as you can see from the picture. We got involved by volunteering in the Brighton Curling Club booth, and helped gather donations from local businesses for the Silent Auction held at the dance on Saturday night.

AppleFest 2023 will be held September 21 - 24. More details can be found here. You can read more here about Apples in the area in this blog post.
